Insects
Many people do not realize how unique an insect can be!
Over the years many unique and interesting insects have been discovered. Whether big, small, cute or creepy insects are very interesting to learn about!
The flying cricket
The flying cricket is the smallest of all crickets, being microscopic sized. They are a unique yellow color they use this to blend in with the pollen. It gets its name from the clear wings on their backs, because of their transparent color and that they lay completely flat it took scientist two different exams to even notice them. Scientists believe they eat pollen, and use their wings to fly along with pollen and eat it. We don’t know exactly how long they live though we believe they cannot live very long. There could be billons or only a few hundred, since they are so small and have only been seen a handful of times since their discovery in 2020 by Noah Oaks. Though Crickets are known to be noisy we believe these crickets may be silent to better camouflage in the pollen, another reason we believe this is while studying them no noise was heard. They most likely live everywhere with pollen but could only live in places with more pollen then others. Though we cannot know for sure we think their predators are, Bees who could accidentally pock them up in fathering pollen although some think Bees would know the difference and avoid picking them, so far bees are the only likely natural predators though humans are effecting them through, Development and Monocultures: As urban and agricultural areas expand, natural habitats rich in diverse pollen-producing plants are destroyed or fragmented. This leaves Flying Cricket with less food, Reduced Wildflower Habitats: The use of pesticides and herbicides, particularly in agriculture, can eliminate wildflowers and other flowering plants that serve as important pollen sources, Direct Toxicity: Many pesticides may be extremely toxic to Flying Crickets.
